Gurez

Welcome to Gurez, a lonely and isolated valley in India’s northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir. Gurez, known for its spectacular natural beauty, is the ideal place for anyone seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in a real feeling of wildness.

Snow-capped mountains, beautiful green meadows, and pristine lakes surround the valley, providing chances for hiking, fishing, and picnics. Visitors may also enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys by taking a leisurely stroll around the valley.

Gurez also has various trekking trails, including the famed Gurez Valley Walk, which takes you through some of the region’s most magnificent scenery. The trail winds through deep woodlands and lovely meadows. Gurez is around 86 kilometers from Bandipora and 123 kilometers from Srinagar. You may hire a private vehicle from Srinagar and go to the valley in around 5 to 6 hours. If you prefer to use public transportation, take a bus from Srinagar to Bandipore, then another bus to Dawar hamlet in Gurez. Razdan Pass, located halfway between Bandipore and Gurez, is the highest point on the road. It provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains and canyons from its elevation of 3550 meters (11,627 feet). On the internet, there is some erroneous information claiming that the route/road is scary/dangerous. There’s nothing to worry about on this calm mountain road. Gurez gets a lot of snow in the winter. Even the passes going up to it get a lot of snow, so it’s closed for six months out of the year. From May through October, the valley is available to visitors. Gurez is best visited between late June and mid-August.
